Former Missouri governor and SEAL Eric Greitens to deploy to Mideast with Navy

Former Missouri governor and former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens says he will deploy with the Navy to the Middle East this year, according to a new report.

Greitens, who resigned from his post as governor last year, was placed on inactive status with the Standby Reserve after he was elected in 2017. His application in April to move to the selected reserves was approved and he will return to active status as a general unrestricted line officer, Navy Recruiting Command spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Jessica McNulty told the Kansas City Star.

The Navy also said Greitens, 45, is based out of the Navy Operational Support Center in St. Louis upon his return to active status.

Greitens also reportedly informed friends and supporters this month that he will deploy with the Navy to the Middle East in the fall and that he is working to publish a fourth book this year, sources told the Kansas City Star.

The former governor, who previously was a Democrat, was arrested in February 2018 after he was charged with invasion of privacy and computer tampering.

The invasion of privacy charge was connected to accusations that he blackmailed a woman with whom he was involved in an extramarital affair. He admitted he was involved in an affair with the woman, but denied he blackmailed her.

The computer privacy charges stemmed from allegations that he knowingly deceived the state ethics commission on how he obtained a veterans charity’s donor list.

Both charges were dropped and he resigned in May 2018.
