A Virginia woman and daycare owner was charged with three counts of cruelty and injury to children after the toddlers under her care consumed THC-laced goldfish crackers, police said Friday.
At least three 1-year-old children were taken to a local hospital in March after parents said their toddlers had “glassy, bloodshot eyes,” according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
They also demonstrated uncoordinated and lethargic behavior, according to reports.

Doctors at Stafford Hospital Center determined that the toddlers’ symptoms were the result of exposure to THC, which is the psychoactive substance in cannabis.
An investigation into the matter led police to 60-year-old Rebecca Swanner, who operated a licensed home daycare service.
Upon a search of the daycare, authorities recovered several goldfish crackers that had been scattered around a set of high chairs.
Tests confirmed the crackers contained traces of THC, and Child Protective Services became involved.
The inclusion of CPS then led Swanner to turn herself in to the authorities on Thursday.
