Motorists on Interstates 66 and 64 in Virginia should be sure to drive extra carefully Friday and Saturday.
A two-day Virginia State Police enforcement initiative will target speeders as well as reckless and drunken drivers.
Additional troopers will be on the highways during the initiative.
The last time the state police’s Operation Air, Land and Speed targeted I-66 and I-64, troopers cited 973 speeders, 226 reckless drivers and arrested three drunken drivers, police said.
Also Saturday, Alexandria police will conduct a roaming DUI enforcement. Police said officers will stop motorists to check whether drivers are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The enforcement will take place from 8:30 p.m. Saturday to 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
