Judge dramatically reduces $1M bail for accused rioters in Pennsylvania

At least eight of the nine accused Pennsylvania rioters who initially had their bail set at $1 million have now had that bail requirement dramatically reduced.

None of the nine were able to post the $1 million, court records show.

Judge Dennis Reinaker reduced the bail amounts for four of the individuals to $50,000 unsecured bail. This means the four will not need to pay the amount unless they violate one of the conditions of their bail.

District Judge Bruce Roth, who originally set the $1 million bail amounts for the nine, reduced the bail requirements for four others, setting one at $100,000 unsecured, one at $50,000 with house arrest, another at $25,000 with house arrest, and another with $100,000 cash upfront.

For one of the nine, Matthew Modderman, it is unclear if his $1 million bail requirement has yet been or will be reduced. The Lancaster County Bail Administration Office did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for clarification.

The nine were arrested on Monday and face charges of criminal conspiracy for arson, riot, institutional vandalism, failure to disperse, obstructing highways and other public passages, disorderly conduct, and defiant trespass. The arrests happened during demonstrations over the death of Ricardo Munoz, who was killed by a police officer after he charged toward that officer with a knife.

Activists felt the $1 million bail amounts were excessive and lobbied the court to have them reduced.
