President Obama on Tuesday vowed that the United States would investigate the alleged slaughter of 16 Afghan civilians by an American soldier “as seriously as if it was our own citizens, and our children, who were murdered.”
“I’ve directed the Pentagon to make sure that we spare no effort in conducting a full investigation,” the president said at a White House event that was supposed to be about trade issues with China, but which was overrun by a third straight day of violence in Afghanistan.
“I can assure the American people and the Afghan people that we will follow the facts wherever they lead us, and we will make sure that anybody who was involved is held fully accountable with the full force of the law,” Obama vowed.
