No news outlet has projected that Joe Biden will be the winner of the presidential election, but his campaign is charging forward with acting like victors and preparing to take control of the White House.
The latest signal: A transition team website for a Biden-Harris administration went live on Wednesday afternoon.
The site’s URL uses one of Biden’s campaign taglines, Build Back Better. Just one page is accessible to the public, with a photograph of the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee and a brief explanatory paragraph.
“The American people will determine who will serve as the next President of the United States. Votes are still being counted in several states around the country. The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice — and the transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One,” the website says.
Earlier on Wednesday, Biden gave a speech in which he stopped short of declaring victory but suggested that it is just a matter of time before battleground states finish counting vote totals and news organizations project that he will win the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency.
“I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report, when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners,” Biden said Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware.
President Trump has similarly declared himself the victor, “claiming” wins in Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia, even though three of those states have not been called, and Michigan has been called for Biden.
