Pharmaceutical firm reports increased losses

Rockville-based EntreMed Inc., a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, reported a net loss of about $50.9 million in income for the 2006 fiscal year.

In 2005, the company reported a loss of around $17 million but saw that deficit balloon by more than $33 million this year. Despite the losses, EntreMed reported an increase of $1 million in revenues for last year and still maintains assets of around $51 million in cash and short-term investments.

As of Wednesday, shares of EntreMed traded at $1.57, down 3 cents or 1.87 percent.
