Police honored for outstanding heroism

Harford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon was honored Saturday night at the agency?s awards banquet with a Valor Commendation for his action during a call on Feb.10, 2005.

Logsdon found himself face to face with a suicidal man who was armed with a loaded shotgun. At great risk to himself, Logsdon engaged the man in conversation, and after a period of time, he was able to convince the man to put down the weapon.

Once the shotgun was in his possession, Logsdon further assisted the man by transporting him to the hospital where the man received medical treatment.

Also recognized for work that stood out in 2005:

Three individual units within the agency ? the Court Services Unit, the Records Unit and the Gang Suppression Unit ? were also recognized for outstanding work in 2005.

Harford County Sheriff R. Thomas Golding also commended deputies who had been involved in a situation in 2005 where a life had been saved. Those honored were Dfc. Richard Berg, Sgt. Charles Carr, Dfc. Gregory Young, Deputy Christopher Behles, Deputy Charles Blessing, Sgt. Bernard Chandler, Dfc. Holly Hinkle,Dfc. Donald Hopps, Dfc. Todd Robinson, Dfc. Gerald Eaton, Dfc. Brad McQuay, Dfc. Samuel Mitchell and Dfc. Ronald L. Sherman.

Special unit

» Harford County Sheriff?s Department Illegal drugs continue to plague the county so the department created a special investigations unit.

» The special unit targets both street-level distribution and major drug violators through the deployment of covert and uniform deputies.

» The unit established a “DRUG TIPLINE” for citizens to report illegal drug activity, criminal activity or any suspicious or terrorist tips.
