President Trump’s campaign blasted Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan for mentioning 13-year-old Barron Trump while she attacked his father during a hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee.
“Only in the minds of crazed liberals is it funny to drag a 13-year-old child into the impeachment nonsense,” Kayleigh McEnany, a Trump campaign spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday. “Pamela Karlan thought she was being clever and going for laughs, but she instead reinforced for all Americans that Democrats have no boundaries when it comes to their hatred of everything related to President Trump. Hunter Biden is supposedly off-limits according to liberals, but a 13-year-old boy is fair game. Disgusting.”
“Every Democrat in Congress should immediately repudiate Pamela Karlan and call on her to personally apologize to the president and the first lady for mocking their son on national TV,” she added.
Karlan, a Democratic impeachment witness, mentioned Barron during the Wednesday hearing after being asked how Trump differed from a king. “The president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron,” she said.
The comment brought rebuke from members of the Trump family with Donald Trump Jr. calling her statement grotesque while first lady Melania Trump said Karlan should be “ashamed” of herself. Rep. Matt Gaetz also went after the law professor during the hearing, saying her attack on the Trumps made her look mean.
