Jackie Evancho, the teenage singer who sang the national anthem at President Trump’s inauguration, on Thursday said performing for hundreds of millions has “helped” her musical career.
The second-place finisher on the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent” added that her performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner” in Washington, D.C., two months ago has led to more bookings.
The 16-year-old did not disclose the extent to which the publicity blew up her profile, but said she hopes to be invited to perform at a future White House event.
“Oh, I hope so,” Evancho said when asked if she would be singing for Trump again. “You may hear me this summer actually, you never know, for the Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. You never know.”
Last month, Evancho asked the White House for a meeting following the announcement that it would rescind former President Barack Obama’s guidance that had allowed transgender students to use public school bathrooms.
“I am obviously disappointed in [Trump’s] decision to send the #transgender bathroom issue to the states to decide,” tweeted Evancho, who has a transgender sister. “U gave me the honor 2 sing at your inauguration. Pls me give & my sis the honor 2 meet with u 2 talk #transgender rights.”
Evancho never followed up of whether she met with anyone in the Trump administration.
