Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan mocked the state-sponsored British Broadcasting Company for creating an educational film that teaches 100 different gender identities.
Morgan spent the majority of a 12-minute segment on Wednesday debating journalist Benjamin Butterworth, a guest brought on the show to defend the BBC film.
Morgan ridiculed the film, the idea that more than two genders exist, and the BBC’s attempts to explain 100 different genders to young children. The television host also referenced a recent stunt by a London aquarium to illustrate his point.
The Sea Life London aquarium announced Tuesday that it was raising a penguin chick as “genderless,” for which reason Morgan mocked the zoo for applying gender theory to animals.
“Can I, under this new world of self-identification, can I now identify as a two-spirit, neutrois penguin?” Morgan asked Butterworth, picking two of the genders off the list of 100.
“You’re not a penguin,” Butterworth said, telling Morgan to “use a bit of common sense.”
“That’s not a thing that happens. This is the distinction. People do identify as the different genders,” Butterworth explained.
Morgan’s co-host Susanna Reid concluded the segment with a message from the BBC defending its film and efforts to instruct children about the vast array of gender identities.
“The BBC told us this is an informed professional view from a qualified teacher who is a personal social health and economic educations specialist,” Reid said. “Her opinion is based on her own extensive research and many conversations with young LGBTQ people. She is not saying these are medical definitions of gender but is talking about how people identify.”
“Or, to put it another way, she is talking complete cobblers,” Piers quipped.
