A 29-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in her Adams Morgan apartment, D.C. police said.
Gabriela Jose Lopez was discovered dead Tuesday evening in her seventh-floor apartment at the Gelmarc Towers Apartments at 1930 Columbia Road.
There were no signs of forced entry and it appears that Lopez knew her killer, said Capt. C.V. Morris, head of the violent crimes unit.
Lopez, who was from Venezuela, was last seen Saturday and hadn’t shown up to work this week.
A concerned friend went to the apartment and found the door unlocked, police said. The friend ran to Columbia Road and flagged down police. Police found Lopez unconscious with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
In other police news, a 23-year-old construction worker was found dead Wednesday at the bottom of an elevator shaft at the site of a museum being built in downtown District of Columbia.
Joseph Oliver, of La Plata, Md., was found by work crews who showed up on the job at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. at about 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Capt. Morris could not confirm earlier reports that the man was naked when he was discovered by a co-worker. Morris said he doesn’t believe a crime had been committed.
