Online bookies offer odds on lies in Trump’s address, color of his tie

If you think President Trump will declare a national emergency in his address Tuesday, you can put your money where your mouth is.

Online betting oddsmaker Sportsbook is taking bets on if Trump will declare a national emergency and even how many false statements he makes during his 9 p.m. address.

Trump is set to make a prime-time appeal from the Oval Office, where he will speak to the nation about border security and the ongoing situation at the southern border. A fight over funding for the border wall has led to a partial government shutdown affecting more than 800,000 federal workers that is now in its third week.

Bettors think Trump will tell 3.5 or more lies, according to the site’s odds. The line also favors no declaration of national emergency, which Trump has threatened as a way to potentially use military funding to build the wall.

The site also allows bets on when the shutdown will end — before or after Jan. 18. — and even which party will win the presidency in 2020.

Sportsbook isn’t the only site taking bets on Trump’s address. MyBookie is taking wagers on the color of the president’s tie, how many times he says “wall,” how long the Democratic rebuttal will be, and how much longer the shutdown will last, among others.

Trump has demanded more than $5 billion in border security funding to build a border wall as part of appropriations legislation that would reopen the government.
