Baltimore County police said Friday the second teenage boy arrested in the slaying of a Baltimore man during his daughter?s Sweet 16th birthday party last week encouraged his friend to pull the trigger.
Police arrested 17-year-old Dwayne Drake Tuesday, charging him as an adult with first- and second-degree homicide, assault and conspiracy to murder Bryant Jones. They said he egged on his friend, 16-year-old Jamal Charles, when Jones tried to kick the pair out of his daughter?s birthday party last Friday.
“He pumped Jamal Charles into shooting him, saying ?go ahead and shoot him, go ahead and shoot him,” said police spokesman Detective Donny Moses.
Charles, the shooter, was charged with murder and handgun violations Saturday, Moses said. Drake did not possess a weapon.
The incident occurred in a rowhome in the 1000 block of North Augusta Avenue. Jones, 42, tried to get Charles and Drake to leave the party for being disruptive, according to court documents. The teens began arguing with Jones as he escorted them out, getting louder as they stood on the porch.
Charles did not display the gun until after Drake told him to fire it, the records say. Witnesses told police the teens arrived at the party together and ran off in an unknown direction after the shooting.
