Eric Trump: Democrats leveraging coronavirus to rob president of campaign rallies

Eric Trump said Democrats are thrilled the coronavirus pandemic stopped his father, President Trump, from holding campaign rallies.

By comparison, Trump claimed the team for Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is reveling at keeping the 77-year-old at home to limit the number of gaffes he makes and avoid low-turnout at his events.

“Listen, Biden loves this. Biden can’t go onstage without making a horrible blunder. I mean, even from his basement, he’s making awful gaffes every single day. So his campaign’s thrilled he’s not going out there,” Trump told Fox News host Jeanine Pirro on Saturday.

“They think they are taking away Donald Trump’s greatest tool, which is to go into an arena with 50,000 people every single time,” he added.

When it comes to the restrictions meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Trump said Democrats will “milk it every single day” until Election Day.

“And guess what? After Nov. 3, coronavirus will magically all of a sudden go away and disappear, and everybody will be able to reopen,” he said.

The president last held a rally in March. Campaign officials recently told CNN there are no set plans for him to return to in-person campaigning, but they are mulling alternatives, including a virtual rally.

President Trump told the Washington Examiner’s Salena Zito last week that Democratic governors are “playing politics” with state restrictions meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“They think it’s a bad thing for me if they delay the opening. I think it’s bad for them. You have people protesting outside, and those people like Trump,” the president said of the anti-lockdown protesters.

The president also said he has heard a “rumor” that the Democratic Party wants to use the coronavirus as an excuse not to have Biden debate him.

Biden said in an interview with radio host Enrique Santos that he is “ready to debate President Trump on Zoom or Skype anytime he wants.”

Trump’s reelection campaign has warned that the president could skip the debates in the fall if he feels the moderators, who are selected by the Commission on Presidential Debates, are not “fair.”

Eric Trump spoke hours after his older brother, Donald Trump Jr., stirred controversy by posting to social media a message that suggested Biden was a pedophile.

Biden is leading President Trump in general election polling by 4.5 percentage points.
