App for iPhone on the menu for Ben’s Chili Bowl

There’s going to be an app for that.

Nizam Ali, son of the late Ben of Ben’s Chili Bowl, is looking toward his tech-savvy customers to help the business develop an iPhone application.

Ali is starting the contest to see whether the restaurant’s fans could design the best app for the restaurant. (Talk about saving a few bucks on research and development.)

“The contest is for people who know and love Ben’s, and people who have a good idea for what an app should be,” Ali told Yeas & Nays.

Ali said that the contest, which starts April 5, still is in the early stages. He also hasn’t set up any strict parameters for the app’s use.

Ben’s Chili Bowl has seen its U Street neighborhood evolve since it opened in 1958, and Ali said it would be great “to have a 50-year-old business have an iPhone app.”

Ali added that the app will be free.
