Lightning bolt kills mother and injures two others as fatal strikes continue

A mother in Florida died Thursday and two others were injured after a lightning bolt struck a Seminole County tree.

The strike occurred at a park near Keeth Elementary School, where the mother and her child were waiting on a second child to leave at the end of the school day, according to a report.

The mother, two other victims, and a dog were not struck directly by the bolt, the report noted.

They were shocked as the strike energized the ground.

At least one child was injured when the lightning struck, police said, and the third victim was reportedly an 18-year-old.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Thursday’s incident comes in the wake of a deadly lightning strike in front of the White House.

Three people died after four were struck in Lafayette Park just outside the White House grounds amid scattered rainstorms in Washington, D.C.

They were discovered shortly before 7 p.m., according to Fire Department spokesman Vito Maggiolo.

Nearby authorities performed first aid, and several people received medical care, but only one person, a 28-year-old girl, survived.
