Pence to huddle with GOP on Obamacare

Republicans have lined up their own high-profile Obamacare huddle to counter the meeting Democrats are planning on Wednesday with President Obama.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence will meet with the full House Republican Conference Wednesday morning to discuss their plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, according to a Politico report.

Also Wednesday morning, Obama will meet with House and Senate Democrats to strategize on ways to combat the GOP repeal efforts.

Obamacare repeal is front-and-center as Congress returns to Washington this week. As one of their first actions, Republicans intend to vote on budget reconciliation instructions that will put the wheels in motion to get rid of big parts of Obama’s signature healthcare reform.

They plan to use budget reconciliation to eliminate Obamacare’s income-based subsidies for buying private health coverage, its Medicaid expansion and its individual mandate to buy coverage. The process will take a number of weeks, but Republicans hope to have voted on Obamacare repeal by spring. Their plan is to phase out the law over two to four years to buy time for crafting a replacement.
