The IRS on Wednesday will begin sending payments to people who qualified for the tax rebates in the CARES Act but did not receive the extra $500 for dependents.
The CARES Act, enacted in March, provided households with payments up to $1,200 per adult with incomes less than $99,000 (below $198,000 for joint filers) and a $500 payment for dependents under the age of 17, according to the Treasury Department
A family of four was to receive $3,400, but that did not occur for an unspecified number of people who don’t file tax returns, according to the IRS.
The agency updated its website on Wednesday stating that nonfilers who received the $1,200 ($2,400 for joint filers) but did not collect the $500 dependent payment will soon get that payment.
“The IRS will automatically issue the additional $500 EIP per qualifying child to affected individuals in early August for those who used the Non-Filers tool,” the website stated. It is not clear how many families will receive the payments.
Nonfilers had to enroll with the IRS before May 17 to receive the $500-per-dependent payment. Direct deposit payments are scheduled for release on Wednesday. Paper checks or debit cards will be mailed on August 7.
