House Republicans are blaming Democrats for rising gas prices in a new digital advertising campaign launched on the heels of President Joe Biden implementing a ban on the importation of Russian energy.
The National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP campaign arm, is targeting 10 incumbent House Democrats, including Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, with ads running on digital platforms that ding them for record-high gas prices. Biden and the Democrats say Moscow’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and Biden’s move to punish Russian strongman Vladimir Putin are responsible for the spike.
Republicans beg to differ and hope to use voters’ discontent with high energy costs to win more seats in the midterm elections.
REPUBLICAN HIT BIDEN OVER HIGH AS PRICES AS PRESIDENT BLAMES RUSSIA
“Joe Biden’s war on American energy began the second he took power, and now American consumers are paying the price,” Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the NRCC chairman, said in a statement. “The blame for record-high gas prices lies solely at the feet of Joe Biden and House Democrats.”
What do Republicans claim Biden and the Democrats are doing wrong?
“Since taking power Democrats launched a full-scale war on energy that includes: slow-rolling oil and gas permits, canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, banning new oil and gas leases on federal lands, halting new federal support for oil and gas projects overseas, and suspending oil drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge,” the NRCC said in a press release.
