Arlington County prosecutor calls it quits

Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney Richard Trodden announced his retirement Wednesday.

ARLnow.com first reported that Trodden will not seek reelection in 2011. He retires after almost two decades as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for both Arlington County and Falls Church.

On his way out, Trodden endorsed Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos as his successor in next year’s election.

Trodden was first elected as the Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1993. Since then, he has prosecuted crimes in Arlington County and Falls Church, and is also responsible for all felonies and misdemeanors committed at Ronald Reagan National Airport.
