RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Tom Daley, deputy director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and longtime public servant, has died at 58.
Virginia higher education officials said Daley passed away Monday at his home while recovering from surgery. Woody Funeral Home in Richmond confirmed his death Wednesday.
Daley served as the council’s deputy director and chief financial officer since February 2005. He previously worked for the Virginia Community College System, the University of Virginia and William and Mary.
The Alexandria native earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from U.Va. and a master’s degree in business administration from Virginia Tech.
He is survived by his wife, Betsey, son, Tom, and sister, Patricia Hodgson. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/L3TTmc ) that Daley’s wife is staff director of the state Senate Finance Committee.
