Howard residents to receive overview of lake dredging

The Columbia Association staff will provide an overview of the lake-dredging project to Owen Brown residents, who are encouraged to attend the Village Board Meeting at 7 p.m. April 3 and provide feedback on the options for dredging lakes Kittamaqundi and Elkhorn. Community feedback is expected to assist the CA?s Planning and Strategy Committee and board with making a decision on the process.

A second briefing is planned at the Town Center Village Board meeting April 11.

The CA also will keep residents up to date through the “Columbia Matters” television show, which airs on Comcast Channel 71 and Verizon Channel 41 at 11 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. Mondays and 8:30 p.m. Saturdays.

The association is considering mechanical or hydraulic dredging and in the case of Lake Elkhorn, where to place the dredged materials. The amounts for the projects range from $3 million to $8 million.

Board members have raised concerns about the dredging?s effect on the environment and the machinery?s noise level.

A decision is expected April 26.
