Conservative Parkland survivor to host livestream to counter gun control walkout

While his classmates will be joining a school walkout to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting, one Parkland student will be hosting conservative speakers on a Facebook livestream.

Kyle Kashuv, a conservative student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., the site of the deadly mass shooting in February that killed 17 people, announced on Twitter he will be hosting four prominent guest speakers on a Facebook livestream “to discuss ways to save lives without infringing on 2A [Second Amendment] and the importance of mental health and not bullying.”

Speakers lined up for the event include former Deputy Assistant to President Trump Sebastian Gorka, Turning Point USA Executive Director Charlie Kirk, former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, and Chairman of the American Conservative Union Matt Schlapp.

Kirk had originally planned to speak at the high school on the Second Amendment, until the school blocked the event because “non-school sponsored, student-initiated guest speaker assemblies/meetings are not permitted to take place on campus,” according to Cathleen Brennan, a spokeswoman with the Broward School District who spoke with the Sun Sentinel.

Since the shooting, Kashuv has taken a different approach to advocating his views on gun control. His conservative ideas stand in stark contrast to other survivors who are pushing for stricter gun laws.

In March, the 16-year-old met with senators of both parties in Washington, D.C., to discuss his ideas on guns and even landed an audience with the president and first lady in the Oval Office.

Kashuv has also made numerous appearances on Fox News to promote his conservative beliefs on the issue.
