‘Politicians disgust me’: Twitter explodes after Clinton calls Gabbard a ‘Russian asset’

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is facing scrutiny after she alleged that Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard is a “Russian asset” being used by Moscow to run as a third-party spoiler candidate in 2020.

Clinton, 71, pushed the theory on Campaign HQ podcast, which is hosted by former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, David Plouffe.

“They are also going to do third party again. I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton stated, referring to Gabbard without mentioning the Hawaii representative by name.

The failed presidential candidate’s allegations levied against Gabbard, a major in the Army National Guard, went viral and received backlash.

Despite the criticism, Nick Merrill, a top aide for Clinton said, “If the nesting doll fits” and added that “this isn’t some outlandish claim.”

Gabbard faced more accusations of being a “Russian asset” earlier this week when the New York Times published an article with the allegation and also labeled her an “Assad apologist.” More recently, CNN analyst Bakari Sellers alleged that she is “a puppet for the Russian government.”
