Pelosi responds to Trump: ‘My stock goes up every time he attacks me’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she remains unfazed by attacks on her by President Trump.

“My stock goes up every time he attacks me. So what can I say?” the California Democrat said Tuesday at the Peterson Foundation’s 2019 Fiscal Summit. “Let’s not spend too much time on that, because that’s his victory. The Diverter-of-Attention-in-Chief. We’ll talk about this instead of talking about the fact that the president of tariffs and trade and all the issues, in terms of what we need to do for our country to solve some of the challenges that we face.”

Pelosi appears to have unveiled the new nickname Diverter-in-Chief in the interview at the Peterson Foundation after Trump labeled her “Nervous Nancy” during his state trip to the United Kingdom.

Minutes before a ceremony honoring the 75th anniversary of the Allied D-Day landings, Trump did an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham in which he took aim at Pelosi.

“I think she is a disgrace,” Trump said. “I actually don’t think she’s a talented person. I’ve tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done. She’s incapable of doing deals. She’s a nasty, vindictive, horrible person.”

Pelosi reiterated Tuesday that she believed it was inappropriate to attack a fellow American politician on foreign soil.

“I don’t care what motivates him and we never know. But in front of the tombstones of the fallen and we’re at the 75th anniversary of Normandy. You be the judge of whether you think it’s appropriate for the president to take that tact,” Pelosi said.

The veteran lawmaker also dodged questions about whether she had privately told her caucus whether she wanted Trump to go to prison.
