Police: Sex offender planned trip with boys

Baltimore County police have arrested a registered child sex offender, alleging he was planning a trip to Florida with three young boys.

Police charged Richard David Morris Jr., 24, of Reisterstown ? a recreation-league soccer and baseball coach ? with sexual child abuse.

At the time of his arrest, Morris was already on the sex offender registry for an earlier conviction, police said.

Police first learned about Morris? latest activities on March 14. He had been planning to take three young boys ? all approximately 8 years old ? on a trip to Florida, police said. But the grandfather of one of the boys had discovered that Morris was a registered sex offender, causing the trip to be called off, police said.

Officers who responded to Morris? home said they found suitcases packed for the trip.

After Morris was stopped from traveling with the boys, follow-up investigation revealed that he regularly had grade-school-age boys at his home overnight, and they often slept in his bedroom, police said.

When questioned, one of the boys described sexual contact by Morris, according to police.

On April 13, Morris was arrested and charged with one count each of sexual abuse of a minor, sex offense in the third degree and sex offense in the fourth degree.

Morris was released from custody after posting bail, which was set at $200,000.

Police are asking anyone with information about Morris to call the Baltimore County Police Department?s Family Crimes Unit at 410-853-3650.
