Indiana Gov. Mike Pence slammed speakers Democratic National Committee Monday night for refusing to discuss the rising threat of radical Islamic terrorism.
“It is extraordinary to think that yesterday in Philadelphia, 61 speakers came to the podium and not one of them named ISIS by name,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said Tuesday during remarks at the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ annual convention in Charlotte, N.C.
“This man will name our enemies without apology and he will defeat them,” Pence said, gesturing toward Donald Trump.
“You didn’t hear it because [the Democrats] don’t want to talk about it,” Trump later added during his own remarks. “Because in a very true way, they really established ISIS because of weakness.”
Pence and Trump’s criticism comes hours after Republican National Committee officials first noticed that the words “ISIS,” “terror,” “terrorist,” “Islamic” or “terrorism” were excluded from speeches delivered by high-profile speakers on the first night of the Democratic convention.
