‘Because I’m a nice guy’: Biden says he ‘should be flattered’ by migration surge at southern border

President Joe Biden rebuked claims that unaccompanied minors and other migrants are arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border because they presume a higher likelihood of entry with him in office and former President Donald Trump is now a private citizen.

“I guess I should be flattered people are coming because I’m a nice guy,” Biden said Thursday while responding to a question during his first solo press conference at the White House. The number of migrants coming to the southern border has surged in recent months.

Biden also blamed Trump for dismantling the immigration system while in the office he now occupies, rendering efforts to accommodate the number of children seeking asylum more difficult.
