The Senate confirmed Gen. David Goldfein as the 21st Air Force chief of staff Wednesday night.
“I pledge to serve our Airmen and their families unwaveringly and honor our remarkable heritage and legacy of integrity, service and excellence,” Goldfein said at his Senate confirmation hearing on June 16.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter has praised Goldfein saying, “Dave’s extensive political military experience will be to our great benefit as we continue to accelerate our efforts to deal [the Islamic State] a lasting defeat.”
Goldfein is a graduate of the prestigious fighter weapons school and flew combat missions in operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Allied Force and Enduring Freedom.
Previously the Air Force’s vice chief, Goldfein will take over the Air Force’s top military job in a ceremony at the Pentagon July 1.
