A former postal worker in Prince George’s County has admitted that she stole thousands of dollars in U.S. Postal Service funds by misappropriating money orders.

Lamonica Henderson, 42, of Oxon Hill, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Greenbelt.

Henderson worked as a sales and service associate at the Lanham-Seabrook Post Office from September 2007 to May 2009. During that time, she fraudulently issued Postal Service money orders that were payable to herself, her family members and others, according to her plea agreement. She admitted to stealing a total of $78,413 in Postal Service funds.

Henderson admitted that she used that money to pay her bills and often issued money orders in the names of friends or family members to cover up the fraud.

She could face up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced on Sept. 27.

The post office where she worked is at 9801 Lanham Severn Road.
