Monuments and statues have been under attack by protesters since Memorial Day, when George Floyd died in Minneapolis police custody.
Some protesters have vandalized and torn down statues they deemed as representative of historical oppression. Much of the anger has been targeted to leaders of the Confederacy, but several other historical figures have also faced the wrath of activists.
Trump has expressed his support to defend all monuments from being torn down, calling them an important part of U.S. history and heritage.
Trump, who is a billionaire, has donated his $400,000 presidential salary to various governmental agencies since he took office in 2017. He’s given funds to the Agriculture Department, the Small Business Administration, and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, among others.
