Three Burtonsville children who were featured in a Maryland State Police Amber Alert on Monday have been found, according to sources.
WJZ reported Monday evening that the children had been found, but their father has not been located. Police are searching for the father, 41-year-old Kelechi Charles Emeruwa, in order to get information about the death of the children’s mother, 36-year-old Chidiebere Omenihu Ochulo.
Authorities discovered Ochulo dead in the family’s home early Monday morning, and her children, identified as Elijah Emeruwa, 4; Antinnoe Emeruwa, 6; and Jachi Emeruwa, 8, were gone.
Just before 6 p.m. Monday, police announced they had found the children, who were safe, though there was no immediate word on how or where they were found, WJZ reported.
Police were unable to make contact with Emeruwa, described as a black man, 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighing 190 pounds, during the search for the children. Emeruwa may be driving a blue Honda Civic with the Maryland license plate number MKZ-237, police said.
Police records also show Ochulo filed domestic abuse reports against Emeruwa, WJZ reported.
According to police spokesman Lt. Eric Burnett, officers from the county’s third district, along with firefighters, showed up at the residence on the 4200 block of Dunwood Terrace just after 2:30 a.m. and found Ochulo dead inside.
Her three children, who lived in the house with the victim, are believed to have been abducted, which is why the Amber Alert was called, Burnett said.
The lieutenant insisted to The Examiner that Emeruwa is “not a suspect.”
“We’re just trying to find anybody connected with her,” Burnett said. “No one has been labeled as a suspect yet.”
All three children and their father were last seen on their block in Burtonsville.
