Trump: ‘Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him’

President Trump said Thursday evening at the conclusion of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh that his endorsement of the federal judge still stands.

“Judge Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him. His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting. Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!” Trump tweeted minutes after the Capitol Hill hearing concluded.

This morning, California professor Christine Blasey Ford testified before the committee about an alleged incident with Kavanaugh that took place when the two when they were in high school more than 30 years ago. Ford claimed Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her while he was drunk at a party.

In a separate hearing before the same committee later in the day, Kavanaugh took the stage and refuted Ford’s story.
