If you’re going to a ball game in Howard County, leave the ice chests and snacks outside, thank you.
County school administrators on Monday decided to ban all outside food and beverages from its high school athletic venues over concerns that some students had been smuggling in alcohol.
The 12 high school principals recently gathered to reach agreement to prohibits food and drink in gyms as well as stadiums, school system spokeswoman Patti Caplan said on Monday.
The ban for gyms took effect Dec. 1, while stadiums will likely enforce the ban in the spring, she added. While outside food is banned, concessions will be available inside the venues.
Some schools already prohibit outside food and drinks, including Wilde Lake, Centennial, Atholton and Howard.
During the fall, parents received an e-mail from Wilde Lake Principal Restia Whitaker about students who had been bringing alcoholic drinks to the football games.
