Biden stumbles up steps of Air Force One months after breaking foot

President Biden on Friday fell while walking up the stairs of Air Force One.

The Democrat, who at 78 became the oldest president to assume the presidency, was caught on video repeatedly tripping on the staircase and catching himself ahead of a flight to Georgia. Biden was able to recover on his own and he continued toward the plane without assistance.

Biden offered a quick salute at the top of the stairs after recovering from his fall.

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield took to Twitter to say Biden “is fine,” adding the fall was “nothing more than a misstep on the stairs.”

White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told the press Friday that the weather conditions were very windy and said “I almost fell coming up the stairs myself.”

The president, in early December, prior to entering the Oval Office, fractured his foot after he slipped while playing with his dog, Major, forcing him to don a walking boot for weeks.

White House aides have taken great strides during his two months in office to downplay the 78-year-old president’s age. They have limited him to brief speeches that have not required him to stand for long periods and released pictures of him playing with his German Shepherds on the White House’s South Lawn.

After the fall, Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter to criticize the media’s past coverage of former President Trump, noting some outlets criticized him for holding onto the rail of Air Force One.

“I remember the press bashing Trump for touching the rail once. Biden falls repeatedly but I’m sure he’s the picture of health. No wonder all our enemies are pouncing simultaneously and mocking him publicly,” Trump Jr. tweeted Friday.

The president’s Friday fall happened one day after he made a gaffe during a speech, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “president” Harris.

The president was on his way to Atlanta, where he will stop at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and meet with voting rights activist Stacey Abrams, who has been credited for delivering the state of Georgia for Biden in the presidential election and subsequently winning both Senate seats in runoffs in January.

Biden will also meet with Asian American leaders in the wake of spa shootings in the Atlanta area, which left eight people dead, including six Asian women.
