Trump tasks Kushner with business-driven government makeover

President Trump is expected to unveil a new White House office on Monday that will focus on gathering input from the business sector that can be used to improve government functions.

The Office of American Innovation will be run by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who bought the New York Observer in 2006 and ran his own family’s real estate empire before joining the administration as a senior adviser to the president.

Sources told the Washington Post that the office is the brainchild of Kushner, National Economic Council director Gary Cohn and deputy national security adviser Dina Powell. Several other White House staffers with business backgrounds have also been involved.

Those working on the effort have been in contact with top business executives to discuss different approaches government can take to address issues like the opioid epidemic.

Since entering office, Trump has regularly convened CEOs from a variety of industries to discuss issues like healthcare, tax reform and trade at the White House.
