In the 1980s, Huey Lewis was to music what Brad Pitt is to movies today.
Just wholesome enough, fun-loving and handsome, Lewis collected more than his share of women clambering to attend his concerts and speak to him. Today Lewis, has the same rugged good looks and melodic voice that brought Huey Lewis & the News fame.
“The idea was to write the songs as they came to us, rehearse them, play them on the road, then, when there were 12, take them into the studio,” he told The Associated Press of those days. “The object was to have a career. The object was to play Peoria and have people show up.”
Lewis has stayed in the public eye through film mentions and some acting stints. Most notably, he played sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn in the multiple Tony Award-winning “Chicago: The Musical.”
At the time, Bernard Dotson, the show?s dance captain who trained Lewis, told the AP that he was impressed by Lewis? zeal to master the Bob Fosse material without a Bob Fosse background.
“He?s in it to win it,” Dotson told AP. “He really wants to have a great time with it. He really respects the show a great deal and he sees how hard everyone else is working. He wants to be a part of it.”
That?s likely why he still is.
