Former House Republican Doug Collins will not be running for political office in 2022.
Collins, the former representative from Georgia’s 27th Congressional District who had a failed 2020 Senate campaign, announced on Monday that he will not seek public office during this election cycle.
“It has been a joy to serve in both the Georgia Legislature and the United States Congress. During my time in Congress, I was a bee to accomplish a great deal for the folks that I served, including historic criminal justice reform with the passage of the First Step Act,” he said in a statement posted to Twitter.

VETERAN NAVY SEAL SEEKS POTENTIAL CHALLENGE AGAINST WARNOCK FOR GEORGIA SENATE SEAT
Regardless of the announcement, the 54-year-old Georgia native did not shut the door completely on a potential run for office in the future.
“For those who may wonder, this is goodbye for now, but probably not forever,” Collins said. “I do plan on staying involved in shaping our conservative message to help Republicans win back the House and the Senate and help more strong conservative candidates get elected here in Georgia.”
In 2019, Collins, then the top House Judiciary Committee Republican and one of the then-President Donald Trump’s chief defenders, was the former president’s pick to replace retired Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson, but Gov. Brian Kemp chose Kelly Loeffler to finish out his term.

Loeffler, in the primary, defeated Collins but later lost to Democratic Rev. Raphael Warnock. Warnock will be up for reelection again in 2022, given he’s finishing out Isakson’s term, and experts believed Collins could’ve entered the field. Former Sen. David Perdue, who lost his reelection bid against Democrat Jon Ossoff, will not be seeking office in 2022 either.
