Duchess Camilla tests positive for COVID-19 days after Prince Charles

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, tested positive for COVID-19 four days after her husband, Prince Charles, tested positive for a second time.

Camilla and Charles are both fully vaccinated and boosted, officials at the royal residence Clarence House said Monday. They are self-isolating, and it is not clear whether either is experiencing symptoms.

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating. We continue to follow government guidelines,” Clarence House said, according to CNN.

Camilla tested negative Thursday, the same day Charles tested positive, and continued to cover three public engagements on the couple’s behalf. Clarence House confirmed it has reached out to the organizations Camilla visited to inform them of a potential spread. As per government guidelines, Camilla is expected to quarantine for 10 days, though may end isolation early if she tests negative on days five or six.

Queen Elizabeth II, who interacted with Charles two days before he tested positive, so far has not shown any symptoms of COVID-19, according to the BBC. It is unclear whether the queen has been tested for the virus, as Buckingham Palace cited medical privacy when probed.

The queen confirmed before the celebrations of her 70th year on the throne last week that Camilla would receive the title of “queen consort” when Charles becomes king. The title was initially going to be withheld to honor the memory of Charles’s first wife, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me,” the queen said in her jubilee speech. “It is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
