Agency adds another $2b to fix trains, buses, stations Metro needs $13.3 billion over the next decade to fix its trains, stations and buses, nearly $2 billion more than previous forecasts, agency officials said Thursday.
Metro Chief Financial Officer Carol Dillon Kissal said the agency has being reviewing safety recommendations made by federal officials, which will cost more than the $11.4 billion that had been expected in construction needs from 2011 through 2020.
The transit agency has said for years that it has an extensive backlog of projects needed to keep the system running, well beyond what it has the money to do — in addition to the daily operational costs of running the system.
“We’ve identified other needs in that same 10-year period,” Kissal said.
