The Journey continues

If you think Journey is living on its past successes, think again. The band that created part of the musical soundtrack of the 1970s is currently touring behind its May release, “Eclipse,” and is joined by Foreigner and Night Ranger on the current Eclipse Tour.

“I’m in love with this record, which I haven’t said about one of our albums for a long time,” says founding member and lead guitarist Neal Schon. “It’s a rock record and it sounds amazing.”

Schon would know. Since the band formed in 1973, it has had 19 Top 40 singles and 25 gold and platinum albums. The band’s 2008 release, “Revelation,” resulted in more than 1 million fans attending the band’s shows in support of the album, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and grabbed the top spot on the Independent Albums chart.

But don’t think the band is ignoring its past hits and fan favorites. Band members seem enthusiastic about dipping into the back catalog for hits that include “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully,” “Lights,” “Separate Ways,” and “Wheel In The Sky.”

“We’ve got a lot of hits to play and there’s plenty of time to do some new stuff too, so we’re gonna mix it up,” Schon said. “We haven’t toured with Foreigner for over 10 years, so we’re really looking forward to this run.”

Expect the concert to be something akin to a sing-along based on the fan reaction when Journey performed on an outdoor stage during the “Today” television show last month.

“Ever the crowd-pleasers, the band played their classic hit “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” for an audience that sang along to every word,” according to Rolling Stone. “If you close your eyes, you would probably think that the band was performing with their original lead singer Steve Perry, but the singer is in fact Filipino rocker Arnel Pineda, who joined the group in 2007.”

Sometimes a Journey is just too fun to stop.
