A teenager in Florida who became an internet sensation for tracking Elon Musk’s private jet is now using his talents to follow the planes of Russia’s wealthy elite.
Jack Sweeney, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Central Florida, launched @RUOligarchJets in an attempt to track the jets, helicopters, and commercial-sized airplanes of Russia’s wealthiest.

“The aircrafts these oligarchs have are absolutely crazy. Their planes are huge compared to other jets,” Sweeney said.

Members of the Russian elite tracked by the teenager include Alexander Abramov, the head at Russia’s largest steel producer, and Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club, according to the report.

He noted how the oligarchs use commercial-size airplanes, including the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737, according to the report.
The methods through which Sweeney tracks the wealthy Russians is public and legal, according to the report. According to the teenager, he employs websites that track plane transponders as well as his IT and coding skills to aggregate the information.
He first went viral after launching @ElonJet on Twitter.

The social media bot was used to follow the SpaceX CEO’s private plane and tweet his location, according to a report.
At one point, Musk purportedly offered the teenager $5,000 to remove the account, the report noted.
