IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday refused to say his own remarks about President Trump were divisive or added to the already heated rhetoric following the deadly mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, last Saturday.
“My remarks were accurate and straightforward, the truth,” Biden told the Washington Examiner during a campaign stop at the opening of a campaign headquarters in the Hawkeye State.
Earlier in the day, Biden told Iowa voters during a campaign stop in Burlington that Trump is “fueling a literal carnage” in America with his incendiary rhetoric and racist attacks.
He added, “I wish I could say that this all began with Donald Trump and will end with him. But I can’t and I won’t.”
Biden explained, “Trump readily, eagerly, attacks Islamic terrorism, but can barely bring himself to use the word ‘supremacist.’” He went on to say, “Even when he says it, he doesn’t appear to believe it. He seems more concerned about losing their votes than beating back this hateful ideology.”
President Trump slammed Biden’s remarks, saying in a tweet, “Watching Sleepy Joe Biden making a speech. Sooo Boring! The LameStream Media will die in the ratings and clicks with this guy. It will be over for them, not to mention the fact that our Country will do poorly with him. It will be one big crash, but at least China will be happy!”
