LAKESIDE, Calif. (AP) — Two nurses eating at a restaurant saw a mobile home engulfed in flames and pulled out a woman, but firefighters found a man dead in the aftermath.
Authorities say the woman and a third person from the house were hospitalized with smoke inhalation, but none of the victim’s conditions, names or ages were released.
A sheriff’s statement says the mobile home near Interstate 8 in Lakeside caught fire at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The Shangri-La Mobile Home Park is right next to a Heartland Fire & Rescue fire station, allowing firefighters to arrive quickly and keep the flames from spreading through the park.
The fire was out in about 40 minutes, and the man was then found and declared dead.
Sheriff’s and fire investigators are investigating the cause.
