Ken Cuccinelli’s fight for conservative causes

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli enters the commonwealth’s 2013 gubernatorial race with a well-publicized reputation for fighting for conservative causes.

Among his ideological skirmishes:

– The first state official to sue President Obama over federal health care reforms. The U.S. Supreme Court eventually upheld those reforms.

– Challenged the Environmental Protection Agency over whether greenhouse gases were harmful to the public and opposed the agency’s proposed higher fuel efficiency standards.

– Launched a probe of a climate-change researcher at the University of Virginia, accusing the professor of doctoring data about global warming. The court denied him access to the researcher’s emails and papers.

– Warned the state’s colleges and universities that gay employees were not protected by anti-discrimination policies.
