Rudy Giuliani: ‘Truth isn’t truth’

President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani claimed “truth isn’t truth” because Trump’s version of events could be different from those described by witnesses being interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller in the Russia investigation.

Amid negotiations with Mueller’s team for an interview with Trump, Giuliani said he’s not going to rush into it because he doesn’t want the president to be caught in a “perjury trap.”

“When you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he’s going to tell the truth and he shouldn’t worry, well that’s so silly because it’s somebody’s version of the truth. Not the truth,” Giuliani told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“Truth is truth,” host Chuck Todd responded.

“No, it isn’t truth,” Giuliani said. “Truth isn’t truth.”

“Truth isn’t truth?” Todd asked.

Giuliani replied: “No, no.”

Todd said: “This is going to become a bad meme.”

Giuliani clarified that he was referring to two witnesses giving conflicting statements in an investigation, citing former FBI Director James Comey claiming Trump discussed former national security adviser Michael Flynn with him. Flynn was being investigated as part of the Russia investigation. Trump has denied talking to Comey about his adviser.

“Donald Trump says ‘I didn’t talk about Flynn with Comey.’ Comey says, ‘you did talk about it.’ So tell me what the truth is. If you’re such a genius,” he said.
