Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., became the third congressman and second Republican on Tuesday to be ousted in a primary this year.
Forbes is an eight-term lawmaker from the 2nd District of Virginia, and his loss to state House delegate and former Navy SEAL Scott Taylor was due in part to redistricting in the state. His district was redrawn to include the Hampton Roads region, a defense-heavy population that likely leaned toward Taylor.
Forbes’ district stretched from Accomack and Northampton Counties and the city of Virginia Beach, as well as parts of Norfolk and Hampton.
The congressman was the founder and co-chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus.
Forbes was one of 17 members who voted against every bailout and stimulus under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, according to his campaign site. He also received a lifetime “A” rating from the National Rifle Association.
