White House hunting? Newsom visits while Biden is away

California Gov. Gavin Newsom looked right at home at the White House on Wednesday while President Joe Biden was out of town.

Newsom was walking to a door to the White House when a reporter asked him how he was feeling. After a few exchanges, Newsom waved off the reporter and said, “See you in a bit,” before heading inside.

Biden is currently away in the Middle East, visiting Israel, the West Bank, and Saudi Arabia, and is expected to return on Saturday.

MR. TRUMP GOES (BACK) TO WASHINGTON

Newsom is seen by some to be a possible candidate to replace Biden in the 2024 presidential election. A poll released Monday found that 64% of Democratic voters would prefer a new candidate in 2024, with many listing Biden’s age, 79, as their reason for wanting someone else.

Biden was asked about his decreasing support for a 2024 reelection campaign by a reporter on Tuesday, with Biden responding, “92% of Democrats, if I ran, would vote for me.” The poll Biden was referencing appeared to come from a poll that found 92% of Democrats would back him in a hypothetical second showdown with former President Donald Trump in the general election, Fox News reported.

During Newsom’s visit to Washington, D.C., he took aim at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, which the Republican signed in March. DeSantis is one probable challenger to Trump, who appeared to confirm this week that he is going to run, though he hasn’t decided when he will announce his campaign.
