A shootout involving two men and Baltimore City police ended with one man dead early this morning.
At about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Mcelderry Street in East Baltimore, police officers heard gunshots and saw two men shooting at each other.
As the officers approached, one man turned and fired shots at the police , causing the officers to return fire, said Baltimore Police spokesman Officer Troy Harris.
One of the men ran two blocks away, where he collapsed, suffering from gunshot wounds, Harris said.
He was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. The other suspect got away, police said.
Police are now waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine whether the officers’ bullets, or the other shooter’s, were the fatal shots. The dead man has not yet been identified by police.
Baltimore police have shot seven people this year, all of them fatally.
